Timely Art

[Wed 03/11/2010 01:58:54]

The Métiers d’Art – La symbolique des laques collection from Vacheron Constantin combines Swiss watchmaking with Japanese ‘maki-e’ liqueur art. The full collection is made up of nine designs – three designs in limited edition sets of 20 have already been released while the remaining designs, also in limited edition sets of 20, will be released over the next two years. According to Vacheron Constantin, each timepiece features a double face laquered with “motifs selected from the vast symbolic treasure trove of Far Eastern artistic traditions” and is fitted with the  “legendary ultra-thin Caliber 1003”. In addition the “natural radiance” of the 18 carat gold case and dial has been toned down with a ruthenium treatment to ensure the maki-e craftsmanship is suitably highlighted. The first three designs to be released are Pine Tree and Crane, Plum Tree and Nightingale and Bamboo and Sparrow.
