Forevermark, the new diamond marketing brand of De Beers, has launched its own consumer website – www.forevermark.com

The website’s features include information and video on the ‘Forevermark Story’, a ‘Find a Jeweller’ feature and ‘Register My Diamond’ facility as well as video footage of the auction of the world’s largest Forevermark diamonds –  the102.7 and 70.87 carat Ponahalo diamonds.
Launching the website, Forevermark CEO Francois Delage said it would be at the forefront of the brand’s integrated marketing strategy as all the brand’s activities “will be reflected on the website in the most immersive and interactive way possible”.
Forevermark worldwide marketing director Dominic Brand said the website would continue to evolve in the months to come.
“For instance, we will shortly be adding individual homepages for each of our jewellery partners so that they can showcase their Forevermark jewellery designs and give store location and event details,” he said.
According to De Beers, each Forevermark diamond “comes with a promise over and above the 4Cs – a promise that not only gives assurances of quality but also assurances of integrity (as) each Forevermark diamond has been responsibly sourced and has been nurtured at every step of its journey”.
Each Forevermark diamond is inscribed with the Forevermark icon and a unique identification number on its table facet. Invisible to the naked eye, the inscription is 1/20th of a micron deep and “can only be seen using a special Forevermark viewer which can be found in authorised Forevermark jewellers”.

Russian Tsars

Martin Foster reports on diamonds, emeralds and spectacular coloured gemstones that were the stars of the 5th Moscow World Fine Arts Fair.
Described as the most exclusive fair in Eastern Europe, the Moscow World Fine Arts Fair features around 80 of the finest international furniture, clock, jewellery and fine arts dealers.
This year it attracted more than 60,000 registered visitors – a 30 percent increase over 2007 numbers.
Fair general manager Sixtine Crutchfield said the organisers were “overwhelmed and gratified” by local and international visitors’ interest in “the exquisite quality and provenance of the fine pieces exhibited this year”.
“Our exhibitors are rigorously chosen for the exclusive quality of the objets d’art which they bring to the Moscow fair and this policy, implemented since the inception of the fair is now paying handsome dividends in the visitor numbers and final sales results which will mature in the coming months,” he said.

In an exhibition space of 5000 square metres in Moscow’s largest cultural complex, the Manège, the MWFAF exhibited artworks of Dali, Rodin, Warhol, Chagall, del Sarto, Picasso, Pissarro, Monet, Sisley, Cézanne and more – as well as diamonds and jewellery from Moussaieff, de Beers, Bvlgari, Harry Winston, Smolensk et al.
One of the star attractions from the 20 jewellery exhibitors was Moussaieff’s single white brilliant diamond pendant of 118.84 carats suspended on a diamond necklace incorporating a further 124.22 carats of brilliant diamonds. The breathtaking ensemble is completed by matching earrings of 11 carats each.

Other beautiful jewellery items on display included a classic emerald and diamond necklace from Chatila with 35.10 carats of both gemstones; a Fire Pendant set with rubies and diamonds in yellow and blackened gold from Jewellery Theatre; and Chanel’s Camélia Imaginaire” necklace in 18 karat white gold, set with 1171 diamonds for a total weight of 19.65 carats and 2 pear-cut diamonds of 2.52 and 5.10 carats.
The exquisite standard of jewellery on display at the Fair inspired many buyers to flock to the onsite auction where 18 pieces of jewellery, including ten pieces from Maxim Voznesensky, fetched US$10.8 million.
Next year the Moscow World Fine Arts Fair is scheduled to be held in the historic Manège in the last week of May.

Leaders of the world diamond and jewellery industry joined Latin American government officials for the official launch of the $200 million Panama Diamond Exchange project.
When complete the PDE will be first complex in Latin America dedicated to the secure and orderly trade in diamonds, gemstones and jewellery.
Guests at the project launch included World Diamond Council chairman Eli Izhakoff, World Federation of Diamond Bourses president Avi Paz, CIBJO president Dr Gaetano Cavalieri, Diamond Dealers Club of New York president Jacob Banda and Moscow Diamond Bourse president Alex Popov.
Speaking at the launch PDE president Erez Akerman said the Exchange would provide Latin America’s diamond, gemstone and jewellery sector with “the home that it never has had”.
“This truly is a momentous event,” he said.
“The PDE will enable its members to do business without having to travel long distances, in a secure environment where they can speak in their own language… Anchored by our bourse, the new complex will provide the infrastructure that will enable Latin America to develop into the next great diamond market.”
Construction of the Exchange, which will also include an office tower and a shopping mall with high-end jewellery stores, is expected to begin midway through 2009 with the first stage due for completion within 18 months of breaking ground.
To encourage the development of Panama as Latin America’s central hub for diamonds and jewellery, the government has agreed to commence with the procedures necessary to grant the area of the new Panama Diamond Exchange Tower with permanent Free Zone status.
This will eliminate taxes and duties on transactions conducted within its confines.
