The Jewellers Association of Australia (JAA) proudly announces a new industry fair run by the industry for the industry, the JAA Jewellery Fair.

This landmark announcement is being delivered amidst great excitement, after detailed research, analysis and discussion by the JAA Board and Executive Director. The event must meet the needs of the industry into the future, so this is exactly what the JAA is setting out to achieve.

There are a number of reasons as to why this move has been undertaken including –

  •  The JAA’s desire to be able to tailor an event to meet the industry needs
  •  With the JAA’s increased management of the event it can better serve the jewellery industry’s ongoing requirements and better present initiatives and programs through face to face contact
  • The new model will help to ensure all revenue streams are maintained or improved to allow future stability
  • Feedback from many industry participants received in recent years have expressed desire for the JAA to manage the industry Fair
  • The opportunity to restore additional benefits for JAA members participating in the Fair
  • It is good timing to review the Fair offering with a fresh approach
  • The changing makeup of the industry over the past 15 years means a revision of the Fair structure is required
  • The planned change in venue and the expiration of the past Fair management contract allowed consideration of a new model
  • Utilising a well located, affordable and yet large venue will provide a greater opportunity for more industry members to participate

The JAA is a not-for-profit organisation, meaning it does not need to make the additional profit an outside organiser desires and all JAA profits are reinvested back into members and benefits and the jewellery industry at large.

“There has been an overwhelming amount of support from the industry when researching this idea” says Laura Sawade, JAA Vice President, who has been greatly involved in preparing scenarios for the Board to review. “The JAA will now embark upon the journey of managing the industry event with a fresh approach that can welcome all those who wish to participate given the affordability and size of the venue we have chosen.”

Utilising the JAA’s industry experience, current skill sets and industry support, the JAA will work with all stakeholders to deliver a jewellery fair that is representative of our industry and relevant to all its sectors. Furthermore, the JAA is conscious of the challenges suppliers and retailers are currently facing, and many of the changes that are desired for the event going forward.

The event will be held 26-28 August 2017 in the Royal Hall of Industries within the Moore Park Precinct, which is located close to the vibrant Sydney CBD. JAA Executive Director, Amanda Hunter commented, “The JAA’s aim is to create an industry event that has a collaborative, positive approach, in which all sectors of the industry and stakeholders can enjoy participating in and we, the industry, can be proud of.”

Hunter added that “I am excited to use my prior event management experience to benefit the jewellery industry to manage a professional event that works to keep the costs of participating down, whilst creating a supportive and exciting environment to be in. We will create an asset for the Association that allows us to better integrate all current and planned projects, which is crucial for the industry as all associations need to supplement membership revenue in order to provide all the services the industry requires now and into the future.”

The JAA will have the control to customise the Fair to suit the market from one year to the next, providing greater benefit to small and large suppliers and retailers, students, manufacturers, exhibitors, sponsors and other industry members alike. With a JAA managed fair there is now increased ability to liaise with industry participants about the Fair and implement their requirements. For example, many smaller sized businesses find it difficult to justify the cost of exhibiting and one of the JAA’s aims is to attract these industry participants and others who have left over the years back with the new model.

There is now a time for change and we look forward to the industry’s involvement with the JAA Jewellery Fair into the future.
