Trick or treat took on new meaning, when a visitor to the Crater of Diamonds State Park in Arkansas found a jelly bean sized yellow diamond with a glint of orange on Halloween. The Crater of Diamonds includes a unique public area where visitors can search for diamonds and take home any souvenirs.

Steve McCool was exploring the park on 30 October, when he saw a small yellow gem, that he assumed was an amber piece of glass. At second glance, however, he saw it was “very large, proud and shiny” and certainly not a piece of glass. He immediately scooped up the find and went straight to the weighing station and asked “Where do I register my diamond.” His confidence was well-founded with the park’s experts pronouncing the 4.49 ct diamond “stunning” with great clarity.
